Keller @ Large: Remembering The Good Times Of 2015
BOSTON (CBS) - Here we are on the cusp of another new year, and I've managed to make it almost all the way through the holidays without doing a year in review piece.
This is just as well, for several reasons.
The end of December can often be an arbitrary time to fully assess what happened during the preceding twelve months. For instance, if Donald Trump flames out in February, will all the noise he made this year really have been that big a deal?
Plus, no year in review column can ever match the one Dave Barry writes each year, so why bother?
Instead, when I think back on 2015, I don't remember big news events at all. (OK, the way the Super Bowl ended, but that's it.)
I remember moments that involved people I actually know, and care about.
I remember Jack Williams' final day here at WBZ, when at the end of a night of glowing tributes from colleagues and friends, his parting words were about how proud he was to be associated with us.
I remember the grateful look on my neighbor's face when I showed up after yet another snowstorm with my snowblower, offering the help he never would have presumed to ask for.
I remember good times on the back deck with friends, talking baseball and laughing about stuff, with a beer-can chicken steaming away on the grill.
I remember every minute spent with my family, who make life worthwhile.
And I remember every walk and fetch session with Buddy the Lab, who always makes me proud to be with her.
That's my year in review.
And it actually makes me eager for the new one.
