Haverhill Fourth-Grade Teacher Cleared Of Drug Charges

HAVERHILL (CBS) --  Charges were dropped Friday against a fourth-grade teacher who was arrested earlier this year in connection to a drug investigation.

Amanda Roche, 27, of Haverhill was arrested in April along with her former boyfriend Jim Alizee, 25, after police executed a search warrant of their Webster Street home.

She had been charged with possession of a Class B substance with intent to distribute, possession of a Class C substance, and conspiracy to violate drug laws.

Roche's lawyer told the court she was not involved in drug dealing and that she was living in fear of Alizee, who refused to move out of the apartment, the Eagle-Tribune reported. 

Roche had been on paid administrative leave from her job with Haverhill Public Schools. She will return to teach in the Fall.

Alizee pleaded guilty Friday to the charge of cocaine possession with intent to distribute.He was sentenced to 18 months in jail.
