Free Fun Fridays Now Open For The Summer

BOSTON (CBS) - There were a few hundred people in line outside the Museum of Fine Arts Friday, waiting to get in for free.

It was the summer kickoff to "Free Fun Fridays," which is sponsored by The Highland Street Foundation.

From the Sports Museum in Boston to the Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield, the program provides free admission to some of the state's best known attractions every Friday during the summer.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Carl Stevens reports

"We're now in our third summer. It started as a small idea three years ago, to open cultural institutions free of charge to the public and the program has been so successful," the foundation's executive director, Blake Jordan, told WBZ NewsRadio 1030.

"We're now up to 36 venues at 36 different institutions this summer."

More than 108,000 people enjoyed "Free Fun Fridays" in 2010.
