BOSTON (CBS) – He's no longer only known as "Fist Bump Kid." Liam Fitzgerald has a new title – Man of the Year.

The young boy who gained national attention after a video of him fist-bumping Boston Bruins players was recognized by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society for his fundraising efforts.

Fitzgerald, who has Down Syndrome and has successfully battled leukemia, was named the organization's Man of the Year on Thursday night.

Eight-year-old Liam had been working to raise money as a part of the campaign, which gave each candidate a vote for every dollar they raised.

Fitzgerald used the hashtag #bumpoutcancer during his fundraising efforts, which helped him net more than $152,000 for cancer research.
