Felger & Mazz: Patriots vs. Panthers 'A Coaching Mismatch Of Epic Proportions'

BOSTON (CBS) - Mike Felger and Tony Massarotti opened their show previewing the Monday Night Football showdown between the New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers.

Aside from the x's and o's stuff like protecting Tom Brady on offense and limiting Cam Newton's playmaking ability on defense, what else can the Patriots do to go on the road and end the Panthers five game win streak?

What is one area you can check off as a clear-cut advantage for the Pats?

For Mike Felger, that answer is easy: it's coaching.

"This should be a mismatch. Ron Rivera and Bill Belichick? Come on," said Felger. "This is a coaching mismatch of epic proportions."

"We've seen him [Belichick] get outsmarted by the Harbaugh brothers and even Rex Ryan for god's sake. We've seen him get outsmarted by Tom Coughlin, it happens. I just...Ron Rivera? This is one of these games where you should come out of it and say 'we're playing chess, and everyone else is playing checkers.'"

Felger then went on providing stats to make his case, like Rivera's abysmal record in close games. In games decided by less than one touchdown Ron Rivera has a record of 2-14, which Mazz attributes to coaching conservative and "just wanting to keep it close."
