Daily Talker: No Work Over Winter Break

Students in Duxbury are getting an early Christmas present. No homework for winter break.

The Duxbury Superintendent said, in a note to families, "We, teachers, students and administrators all need a break."

So, Dr. Ben Tantillo directed, "that there be no homework or professional work to be completed or required by our students and teachers over the winter break. Any long range projects that would have been due the day after we return on January 4, the due date is moved to Friday, January 8. It is time to recognize that our students are asked to do more work than ever, just as teachers and administrators are asked to do more. So, I am declaring the winter break to be work free for students, teachers and administrators."

Students and parents we talked to like the idea. They hope to spend more time with their families and friends, relaxing and having fun.

What do you think of this plan? Should more schools and workplaces do this?
