Daily Talker: Armed With Canned Goods
A middle school in Alabama has a lot of people talking this morning. The principal is asking students to bring canned goods to class to throw at possible intruders as a last resort defense.
A letter went home to parents last week informing them of the plan.
Each student is being asked to bring one 8-ounce canned item. The cans would then be stored in classrooms and students wouldn't be carrying them around school.
The principal told the AP, "The canned food item could stun the intruder or even knock him out until the police arrive. It will give the students a sense of empowerment to protect themselves and will make them feel secure in case an intruder enters their classroom."
If the cans are not used, they will be donated to a local food pantry at the end of the year.
What do you think of a plan to have students use canned goods to fight off intruders at school?
