Daily Talker: App Lets You Sell Your Great Parking Space
Finding a parking space in cities like Boston is usually a challenge. A new smartphone app is looking to change that.
"Monkey Parking" allows drivers to buy a spot from someone who is already in it. Right now, it's only available in San Francisco, but promises to expand to other cities.
Here's how it works: users who already have a car in a space post that they are getting ready to leave, and name a price ranging from $5 to $20 to hold it for another user. People looking to park can see the soon-to-be available spots on a map along with the price for each one, and can pay to have a space held until they get there.
The City of San Francisco isn't sure if this is a good idea, and the City Attorney's Office says it is looking into whether it's legal to profit off public parking spaces.
What do you think? Would you be willing to pay someone to hold a parking space for you? Or is this a bad idea that could lead to abuse? Share your comments below, and watch for them on WBZ News in the Morning from 4:30 to 7:00 a.m.
