CONCORD, N.H. (CBS) — The Galusha family of Concord, NH is heartbroken. They will be at Superior Court Thursday afternoon for the arraignment of the man accused of killing their daughter.
"I don't understand what happened," said Mike Maloney, a resident Penacook Place Apartments.
Mike Maloney was one of many at Penacook Place Apartments in Concord, NH trying to get his bearings.
"I didn't hear no screaming or nothing, that's why I didn't call the authorities. I thought it was just a regular argument," said resident Justin LaDuke.
Officers say 23-year-old Sabrina Galusha was stabbed in the chest Tuesday evening and died.
"There's a couple bloody hand prints on the wall, then the knife was outside the door not even two feet," said resident Marissa Logue.
Galusha was trained as a nursing assistant. Police say after she was stabbed, she got back into a car with friends. They drove a short way only to realize she needed immediate help and called 911.
"We have the perpetrator in custody," said NH Assistant Attorney General Jeffrey Strelzin.
Less than 24 hours later, police charged 20-year-old Daswan Jette. Neighbors said he lives in the second floor corner unit with his girlfriend and her young daughter. Prosecutors will not discuss a possible motive or how Jette and Galusha knew each other.
Mike Maloney knows Jette. "Nice folks well-spoken, courteous, it's probably always this way with something like this," said Maloney
Now a family grieves for their daughter and a community feels for them.
"It's very sad news," said LaDuke.
Jette faces two counts of second-degree murder. In New Hampshire, that's punishable with life in prison with the possibility of parole.
