Person Dragged By Car After Fight In Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE (CBS) -- Two people were injured and a suspect was arrested after a violent altercation and hit-and-run in Cambridge Wednesday morning.

Just after 8 a.m., a man was hit and dragged by a Dodge Charger following an altercation in Central Square. Police say the driver and victim knew each other.

Police Deputy Superintendent Christine Elow said the man who was dragged was being held at gunpoint.

A friend of the victim was allegedly pistol whipped when he tried to intervene.

Police found the involved men on Pearl Street around 8:15 a.m.

The two victims were taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say a gun was thrown from the suspect's car as he fled after the initial incident. It was recovered by officers near Allston and Pleasant Streets.

Joekeem Nelson, 20, was arrested following the confrontation.

The Cambridge resident is charged with armed assault to murder, possession of a firearm or ammunition without a FID Card, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Police did not release the identities of the two male victims.

It is not yet clear when Nelson will be arraigned.
