Thornton Unsure About Game 7; 'Not About Me This Time Of Year'

BOSTON (CBS) – For Shawn Thornton, nothing comes above winning.

Even if it means not dressing for a playoff game.

"It's not about me this time of the year, that's for sure," Thornton said Tuesday after the Bruins hit the practice ice, getting ready for Wednesday's Game 7 against the Washington Capitals.

Thornton found himself a healthy scratch for Sunday's Game 6, something he learned just before the puck dropped. The eight-year veteran and head coach Claude Julien had a talk right before the game, and Thornton was more than OK with sitting it out.

"This time of the year there is a bigger picture and it's whatever it takes to get a win. We got the win to get us to Game 7 and that's all that matters," he said.

Healthy scratches in the playoffs are nothing new for Thornton. Last season, he sat out the final five games of the Bruins-Lightning Eastern Conference Finals and first two of the Stanley Cup Championship against the Vancouver Canucks.

The B's were 13-5 with Thornton on the ice, and 3-4 without him. As for Wednesday night's Game 7, the fourth-liner was still unsure about his status.

"We'll see what happens tomorrow," he said. "I don't know what's going on; I'll probably find out what's going on after warmup. I'll prepare to play like I do every other game."

Even if he isn't on the ice, Thornton is expecting another fun Game 7 for Boston and their fans.

"I'm excited. I think we battled back and put ourselves in this situation. Anything can happen tomorrow. We're going to have to come ready to play. I think the experience helps us and hopefully we can prepare the right way," he said. "We've had experience here, so we know how to approach this next game. I think it's upon ourselves to get ready for it but having these Game 7s behind us in the past should help."
