With Oktoberfest right around the corner, German foods and beer are on the collective brain. From sausages and sauerkraut to spaetzle and German potatoes, the following spots will satisfy your German food cravings this fall. Whether you want to grab some German food to enjoy in your own home or have a pint and enjoy a meal amongst other German food fanatics, check out five spots in Boston and beyond with delicious German food selections.

Jacob Wirth's has been loved by the locals since it first opened its doors in 1878. Located right in downtown Boston, it's known as one of the best German restaurants the area has to offer. Open daily for lunch, dinner and drinks well into the night on weekends, head here for live entertainment and German favorites such as Sauerbraten or Jake's special, which features beer-steamed brat and knockwurst over German potato salad and sauerkraut with red bittersweet beer sauce. One of the most popular dishes is the schnitzel: breaded veal tenderloin served with dill spaetzle and a lemon butter sauce alongside grilled asparagus.

Marika's is a family owned and operated restaurant offering affordable cuisine in Beverly. It hosts German Day on Thursdays, alternating between authentic German dishes for lunch. Here you'll find knockwurst, German potato salad, German pancakes with apples and walnuts, and its special German omelet with bratwurst, apples and muenster cheese with baby spinach. Owner Marika Rallis said she loves to see German food garnering attention over American favorites, from pork roasts to dumplings and potatoes. She also mentioned one of the best dishes is the konigs klopse, German meat dumplings that are simmered in a broth and served on sauerkraut with a lemon caper sauce. It also offers German soups, including the special oatmeal soup called haferflocken and, of course spaetzle.

For authentic German food favorites to take home, Karl's can't be beat. The deli features German cheeses and plenty of meats to choose from. Also in the store, stock up on seasoning packets for schnitzel and currywurst in the comfort of your home. As the name suggests, you must indulge in sausages galore including bratwurst, beerwurst and weisswurst. Satisfy a sweet tooth with German cookies or candy as well.

Café Polonia boasts locations in both Boston and Salem. Featuring a menu heavy on Polish dishes with plenty of kielbasa, it also offers German, Hungarian and Eastern European specialties as well. Its Salem location even boasts a German beer garden. Also at the Salem spot, try the German WurstPlatte. For $14, you get bratwurst, knackwurst and chicken brat with sauerkraut, fries, potato salad and mustard for a complete German treat.
