Boston Police Ups Security Measures Ahead Of Marathon Weekend
BOSTON (CBS) -- Just days before the 120th Boston Marathon, Boston Police is upping its surveillance efforts and personnel to ensure safety at events held over the course of the weekend.
In a letter sent to Boston area colleges and universities Thursday, Boston Police Commissioner William Evans laid out a rundown of measures the department is taking including added cameras along the marathon route and undercover officers.
Vehicles will not be allowed to drive on Newbury Street and Huntington Avenue.
Additional ambulances and medical first responders will be present on the marathon route.
Like previous years, spectators are encouraged not to bring backpacks.
This year's marathon is the third one to be held since the bombings in 2013.
