MIT 'Active Shooter' Alert Sent In Error Following Cambridge Shooting
CAMBRIDGE (CBS) -- Members of the MIT community were sent false alerts warning of an active shooter on campus after a shooting was reported nearby.
Police say a 25-year-old woman was shot in the leg on Main Street and Portland Street late Sunday afternoon. The shooting did not occur on campus. The Cambridge Carnival was taking place nearby. The victim's injuries are not considered life-threatening.
Cambridge Police are still looking for the suspect.
MIT students were initially sent email, text and social media alerts in error indicating an active shooter was reported on campus and advising them to evacuate the area or stay indoors.
MIT Police recalled the alert shortly afterwards.
