Abraham On Toucher & Rich: Red Sox 'Immensely Screwed' Long Term

BOSTON (CBS) - The Boston Red Sox were swept for the second time in as many series, and as they stand 10 games under .500 it really seems like they're coming undone before our eyes.

98.5 The Sports Hub's Toucher & Rich spoke with Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe Monday morning about the dismal state of the Boston Red Sox and their long term outlook, which he believes isn't very promising.

"How screwed are they long term?" Fred Toucher asked.

"I think immensely screwed. They signed Pablo Sandoval and Hanley Ramirez to long term contracts, so those are two guys who are essentially going to be designated hitters by the time their contracts are over if they aren't already," Abraham answered.

Adding, "They've invested a lot of money in Rick Porcello and Wade Miley, who haven't proven they can pitch in the American League or certainly for the Red Sox. That's a problem. Four of the bigger acquisitions they had last year do not look like they were the best ideas."

Boston has lost six straight games and are eight games back from the division. Despite that, Abraham reports that no firings are imminent.
