$52,000 Grant For Mass. Low-Income Families To Shop At Farmer's Markets
BOSTON (CBS) - Massachusetts is announcing a grant to encourage low-income families to spend their food subsidies at local farmer's markets.
The state is offering up $52,000 in grant money to 32 of the state's farmer's markets.
In exchange, the markets have agreed to match up to $10 for every purchase families make through the state's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
Advocates say the move will keep the money in the local economy, while encouraging healthier eating.
