MT. AIRY, Md. (WJZ) -- A White House staffer is killed in a crash during a charity bike ride in Howard County.

Jacob Brewer, 34, was participating in the Ride to Conquer Cancer Saturday afternoon when he entered a sharp curve on Old Frederick Road and lost control.

Police say he crossed over the center line and a vehicle hit him.

Brewer was pronounced dead at the scene.

His wife, Mary Katherine Ham, shared photos of Brewer on her Instagram, saying: "In a life where nothing is guaranteed, Jake made the absolute, ever-lovin' most of his time with all of us."

Brewer worked as a senior advisor to the U.S. chief of technology officer.
