Study: Public Schools Drive HoCo's Economy
HOWARD COUNTY, Md. (WJZ) -- Superior public schools are driving Howard County's strong economy.

Howard County Public Schools' high performance boosts the economy by nearly $2 billion. The success of Howard County is directly tied to its education system.
"High-achieving schools and students also are equating to high property values, jobs and business activity," said Howard County Public School System's communication director John White.
Families are flocking to the area to enroll their children in some of the best-ranked schools in our country drive up the value of the housing market and average household income.
"That is the pride and joy of Howard County," said Sage Policy Group CEO Anirban Basu. "One of the reasons that families that could live anywhere, who have the means to live anywhere, choose Howard County."
The Sage Policy Group values the public school's contribution to Howard County at $1.85 billion, demonstrating that students' achievements go beyond the classroom.
"Even families that don't have the kids really benefit from having an improved school district," Basu said.
Analysts estimate for every dollar invested in the school, it brings a 200% return.
