Rounds of rain sweep through Maryland this weekend, ahead of winter cold
A band of rain showers arrives Friday evening. Additional rounds of rain will arrive this weekend, ahead of a blast of early wind cold. The First Alert Weather Team has made Monday and Tuesday First Alert Alert Days; giving you a heads up to the sharp drop in temperatures and gusty winds.
Late evening showers Friday
Patchy drizzle and a few showers are possible before 9 p.m. Showers will become a widespread and steady rain by late evening. The chance of rain peaks between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. across our region. Though, the chance of rain diminishes the farther southeast you head from I-95. Rainfall amounts will remain less than .50".
The forecast dries out and warms up through the day Saturday. The forecast will cooperate with Veterans Day plans.
Another round of wet weather expected Sunday across Maryland
Showers return to the forecast Sunday.
There will be breaks in the rain. A round of scattered rain moves through during the morning hours. Spotty showers are possible through the afternoon, but there will be dry time as well. Temperatures warm into the upper 60s and lower 70s. Another round of more widespread rain will develop late Sunday afternoon and evening.
Scattered rain is expected during the Annual Bay Bridge Run on Sunday.
Damp weather continues into the night as colder weather starts to blow into Maryland. An additional few-tenths of an inch of rain are expected Sunday.
Winter-like weather across Maryland early next week
Monday and Tuesday are WJZ First Alert Weather Days.
Monday and Tuesday have been declared WJZ First Alert Weather Days for a brief, but intense blast of winter-like air. Monday will be the transition day across Maryland as colder air pours into the area. Wind-chills during the Monday morning commute will be in the 20s and 30s.
Temperatures remain the 40s Monday afternoon. Winds will gust 20 to 30 mph. It'll feel like it's in the 30s in most neighborhoods all daylong.
A reinforcing shot of very cold air will sweep across Maryland Monday evening through Tuesday.
A few snow flurries may fall across the Baltimore metro Monday evening through Tuesday. There won't be any accumulation. Winds become even gustier on Tuesday; gusting up to 45 MPH. Temperatures tumble into the 20s and 30s Monday night. It'll feel like it's in the teens and 20s Tuesday morning.
In far western Maryland, accumulating snow is more likely Sunday night through Tuesday. Several inches of snow may fall on the west side of the mountains in Garrett county. This has the potential to be a plowable snow at the highest elevations. Stay tuned for any future winter weather alerts that could be issued for this region.
Despite the brief punch of winter-like weather Monday and Tuesday, temperatures quickly rebound Wednesday afternoon. The Baltimore region will warm back into the upper 50s and lower 60s heading into the middle of next week.
