Two 18-Year-Olds Injured In Southwest Baltimore Shooting
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Police are investigating a shooting in southwest Baltimore that injured two 18-year-olds on Wednesday.
The shooting happened on North Hilton Street at the recreation center behind Green Street Academy, according to reports.
When police arrived on the scene, they found two shooting victims.
The first was an 18-year-old man with gunshot wounds to his body.
The second victim was an 18-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his leg.
Both victims were taken to area hospitals for treatment.
Acting Mayor Jack Young released a statement Wednesday afternoon.
"My thoughts are with the young victims and I'm praying they make a full recovery," he said.
Chopper 13 was over the scene.
Neighbors said that it's hard to create a safe environement for kids who attend Green Street Academy.
"I just think it's crazy, kids practicing right here, people going to school right here, and man we're just trying to have a safe environment and have kids do stuff out here," Ryan Singletary said. "It's kind of hard with shootings going on."
Baltimore City Schools confirmed the school went on lock down, but it was a half day so no students were inside at the time.
But parents said that this is where neighborhood kids play everyday.
"I was skeptical to bring my son out here for football practice because what if somebody comes back and they out here," Singletary said.
Baltimore City Fire Dept. Deputy Commander Chaplin Michael Jenson said that it is time for the violence to stop.
"The school right behind me, I went to that school," he said. "I live a block down the street. We have to do something. We can't let it continue to be like this."
Dectives said that no suspects are in custody at this time. They are asking anyone with information to come forward.
