Police Investigate Fatal Shootings Of 2 15-Year-Old Boys
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Teenaged best friends are gunned down on the same night in their West Baltimore neighborhood. Now, two families are grieving.
Derek Valcourt spoke to one victim's heartbroken father.
"It's just so hard, man. It's so hard," said Richard Tarbert.
Tarbert's life is shattered. His son, Anthony Tarbert, is one of two 15-year-olds shot to death in the West Hills neighborhood Sunday night. He and his wife heard the shots.
"Boom, boom, boom. Ten of them. I counted them. Right away, I come to my son because this is his neighborhood and his friends," Tarbert said.
Police responded to the scene and found the body of Anthony Tarbert's best friend, 15-year-old Dominic Perry, but Tarbert was nowhere to be found.
"I checked every yard. I didn't see him. I didn't see him. I checked the woods, I checked the cellarways, I called all his friends, I had people riding around," he said.
After six hours searching the neighborhood, he found his son's body in a neighbor's backyard, back by an air conditioning unit. It was just doors down from his home.
Two weeks ago, when a police officer was shot by a sniper's rifle in this same neighborhood, it was 15-year-old Anthony Tarbert who stayed with the injured officer until help could arrive. He told WJZ why.
"'Cause he was on the ground, giving out. There wasn't nobody talking to him. He was the only one, he was by himself," Tarbert said.
Police believe the two incidents are not related, but right now detectives have no suspects in the murder of the two 15-year-olds.
"They appear to be good kids and we're struggling to find a motive," said Anthony Guglielmi, Baltimore City Police.
As the police investigation continues, two families are left grief-stricken.
"But we want closure. We want to know why he was picked," Richard Tarbert said. "Why did they pick them?"
Those are questions police are still trying to answer. They have a few leads but say with no motives and no suspects, they need the public's help to crack the case. If you have information, please call police.
Family members of 15-year-old Dominic Perry declined to speak with WJZ.
