Shooting, separate domestic stabbing in Maryland leaves 5 injured on Cinco de Mayo

Laurel Police are searching for a suspect in a domestic stabbing and looking to identify a person of interest in a separate shooting after the incidents left five people injured during a Cinco de Mayo event Tuesday evening.

Police initially responded to Amigos Mexican Grill, located in a shopping center in the 13600 block of Baltimore Avenue, for a reported shooting.

Officers were already in the area at the time, as the restaurant was holding a sanctioned event, which began to draw a large crowd.

After a fight broke out, police began to shut down the event, encouraging attendees to disperse.

Officers said three people were shot during a fight involving multiple people in the parking lot between LongHorn Steakhouse and Amigos Mexican Grill.

All three victims were transported to local hospitals and are now recovering from gunshot wounds, officials said Wednesday afternoon.

Officers believe there was a single shooter and are asking the community to help identify a person of interest.

Domestic stabbing

Shortly after the shooting, police learned that two people had been stabbed in the same area by a person who was known to them.

Police identified Shon Juan Cook Jr., of Howard County, as the suspect in the stabbing, which is believed to be domestic in nature.

An arrest warrant was issued, charging Cook with attempted murder, assault and other offenses. However, police have yet to locate him and are asking for the public's help to find him.

Members of the public and acquaintances of Cook are encouraged not to approach or engage him, and instead call the police.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact Laurel Police at 301‑498‑0092 or anonymously at LPDtips@laurel.md.us. Anyone with video or photos from the incident is asked to turn them over to police.
