March For The Animals Hopes To Raise Money For Pets In Shelters
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Right now, national statistics show there is a 67 percent chance that you have a dog or a cat. With hundreds of millions of pets in this country, some of them end up in shelters.
Their care is expensive but, as Mike Schuh found out, fundraisers are never too young to make a difference.
It's a friendly scene after a March for the Animals and all animals are welcome.
Caylee Ellis is six. Star and Pumpkin are her cats at home.
"Star is mean and Pumpkin is nice," she said.
She's been to the March six times. At the SPCA in Hampden, Caylee is well known; she's an ace fundraiser for the March for the Animals.
"I say, `Can I please have some money?'" she said.
"Oh no, it's all her. I just put it up on Facebook but when they're face-to-face, she goes up and asks them, `Would you like to donate for the animals?' and they don't tell her no," her mom, Melissa Ellis, said.
Caylee has raised over $700 this year. The shelter's goal is $400,000.
"We don't receive any government or ASPCA funds so we really need our friends to help us out," said Aileen Gabbey, MDSPCA.
Over her six years, Caylee has donated over $3,000.
The March for the Animals is at Druid Hill Park this Sunday at 10. Walk-ups are welcome.
