Limited Parking Causes Frustrations Near Morgan
Homeowners around Morgan State University are beyond frustrated.
Alex DeMetrick reports they are fed-up with students and staff parking in front of homes, forcing residents to park blocks away.
Parking around Morgan State University isn't just tight, it can be impossible.
For homeowners, if they move their cars, most likely they lose their parking space, to students and college staff.
"We're afraid to go to the grocery store, because we know when we come back, there's no place to park. I've walked six blocks," said Cindy Smithjordan, resident.
"They are actually texting and calling each other when one moves out, another one parks in," said Joshua Johnson, resident.
"They don't have respect for the neighborhood. They'll take up two spaces, park on the wrong side of the street, park crooked," said Angelo Coward, resident.
Frustrated by what they say has been a lack of help from Morgan, neighbors took to the streets. Many marked two hours parking only, except for residents with permits.
State Delegate Curt Anderson, who lives in the neighborhood, is pushing for tougher restrictions.
"We want to do what we can do to help. We try to do more to encourage students to do the right thing," said Delegate Curt.
That includes reducing campus parking fees.
Unless it's to park free, squeezing out those who pay for residential permits and still can't park.
Morgan State University has a new president, who will meet with community associations Wednesday, about the parking problem.
