Grandfather Of Youngest Tucson, Ariz. Shooting Victim Speaks Out

TUCSON, Ariz. (WJZ)—Remembering his princess. The grandfather of a 9-year-old girl killed in an Arizona rampage speaks for the first time.

Gigi Barnett has his emotional story.

Nine-year-old Christina Taylor Green was just starting to become interested in politics when she was gunned down outside a Tuscon, Ariz. supermarket last month.

Christina's grandfather, Dallas Green, is a former baseball manager with the Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees.

For the first time he's speaking about his relationship with Christina.

"She embodied what's good about kids, and what's good about growing up in the United States. And she wanted desperately just to be a little girl that loved doing what she did," Dallas Green said.

Green was known for being a hard nose, no-nonsense man on the field. But when it comes to his granddaughter, she was his princess.

"We just, we just miss the hell out of her," Dallas Green said. "You know, I'm supposed to be a tough sucker, and I'm not very tough when it comes to this. So I apologize, but I don't have much more to say."

While Christina's death was tragic, Green hopes it will impact the world.

"We thought it was just our family, and our neighborhood out in Tucson. But that little girl woke an awful lot of people up," he said.

Dallas Green says he's made a promise to Christina to build a strong relationship with his other grandchildren and pour his energy into baseball.
