Friend Says Slain Teen Talked Of Running Away With Defendant
BLACKSBURG, Va. (WJZ) -- New details are emerging about the Howard County teens charged with murdering 13-year-old Nicole Lovell. The victim's friends are now revealing more about her secret life online.
Investigator Mike Hellgren reports the prime suspect was a standout student athlete at Wilde Lake High School in Columbia before heading to Virginia Tech.
David Eisenhauer has gained worldwide notoriety from the gruesome crime His roommate now says nothing was amiss and that Eisenhauer was a loner and kept to his studies and athletics.
We're learning there were several warnings about the victim meeting men online.
In the weeks before Nicole Lovell was stabbed to death, her friend Kari Cook says she became concerned about the older men the 13-year-old was meeting online. Cook went to school authorities but nothing was ever done.
"He looked older than 18 and they were dating and they were posting screen shots of how they were a cute couple," Cook said.
Police say Eisenhauer, a promising runner from Columbia, lured Lovell from her home and killed her. The motive, according to law enforcement sources: he feared that Lovell would reveal their sexual relationship.
Eisenhauer's friend Gaige Kern posted a letter to him on Facebook, writing in part, "The David I knew had his faults, but this is beyond the scope of imagination...was this newly surfaced personality always there, lurking in the shadows, hiding amidst lies? And if it was, how did you hide it so well?"
Police say he recruited his friend Natalie Keepers to plan the attack and dispose of the body. Both were from Howard County and attended Virginia Tech in Blacksburg.
In an exclusive, new interview, Nicole's father tells Dr. Phil he believes his daughter spent her final minutes trying to stay alive.
"She's my kid. I know she fought like a wildcat. The Keepers girl looks like she had a scar," said David Lovell. "In those pictures right there, you can see the scar."
He also revealed he recently grounded his daughter from social media because she was chatting with older men.
Another friend of Nicole's told the Washington Post that the relationship with Eisenhauer became serious.
"She always talked of running away with him. She used to talk to a lot of older guys. A lot of people told her not to; I told her it's not safe. I told her she was going to be hurt or kidnapped or something," the friend said.
Eisenhauer and Keepers are both in jail.
