Former Maryland Congresswoman Says She Is Feeling Stronger

TIMONIUM, Md. (AP) — Former Republican Rep. Helen Delich Bentley, who is receiving hospice care at her Timonium home, says she's feeling stronger.

The 92-year-old Bentley was discharged last week from Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Towson.

The Baltimore Sun reports she issued a news release Monday saying she's "feeling stronger every day." She wrote that she issued the statement to "put to rest misperceptions" caused by a recent series of hospital stays. She wrote, "Did I have a brush with the Master? You bet. But I beat him off."

Bentley represented parts of Baltimore County in Congress from 1985 to 1995 and ran for governor.

The Port of Baltimore, which she covered as a reporter for the Sun, is named for her. She also served as chairwoman of the Federal Maritime Commission.
