Cold weather, occasional chances of light snow in Maryland

There is another opportunity for light snow in Maryland as we head into the first weekend of the new year.

Scattered flurries, light snow early Friday morning

Another weak storm system will slide into our area overnight.

This may be enough to spark a few flurries or snow showers through 6 a.m. While we are not expecting much snow accumulation, it'll be cold enough for anything that falls to stick. Flurries could leave a light slippery dusting as temperatures remain well below freezing. The chance of a dusting is greatest across northern Carroll, Baltimore and Harford Counties.

Please use extra caution if you notice some snow falling while out and about.

Keeping an eye on a weekend storm system

Winter cold will continues through the weekend.

Plan on a mixture of clouds and sunshine during this stretch. Temperatures will peak in the mid to upper 30s both weekend afternoons.

There will be a storm system passing through the eastern United States this weekend. At this time, the storm system appears to remain just to our south, keeping our forecast dry. However, the First Alert Weather Team is keeping a close eye on it. Even a small shift to the northwest could bring wintry weather into the weekend forecast. Some light snow is possible light Saturday, into early Sunday... especially south of Route 50.
