Student shooting sparks police investigation at Miami Northwestern Senior High

MIAMI - Miami-Dade schools police are investigating a shooting in the parking lot of Miami Northwestern Senior High School.

According to police, a student was shot after attending a sporting event at the school on Thursday evening. They did not say what led to the shooting or how seriously the student was injured.

Early Friday morning, a section of the mostly empty parking lot remained cordoned off with crime scene tape as investigators and crime scene technicians placed evidence markers on the ground.

Police said as a precaution extra officers were on hand Friday morning at the school which is west of I-95 and north of 62nd Street.

At least one person had been taken into custody.
