1 Killed, 5 Wounded In Tuesday Shootings

CHICAGO (STMW) -- One man was killed and at least five other people were wounded in shootings across Chicago Tuesday.

The fatal shooting was in the Washington Park neighborhood. About 9:40 p.m., a 26-year-old man was found shot in the head in the 5900 block of South State Street, police said. He was dead at the scene.

A man who said he was the victim's father identified him to reporters at the scene as Cass Leron Singleton.

The Cook County medical examiner's office could not confirm the death Tuesday night and further details were not immediately available.

The most recent nonfatal shooting occurred in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.

About 7 p.m., a 20-year-old man was shot in the hip in the 5400 block of South Laflin Street, police said. He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition stabilized.

A man was shot in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side Tuesday afternoon.

About 3:45 p.m., the 19-year-old was standing outside in the 2200 block of South Kirkland Avenue when he heard shots and felt pain, police said. He was shot in the right calf.

He took himself to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said, but his condition was not known.

A man was shot in the leg Tuesday afternoon in the Roseland neighborhood on the Far South Side.

The 35-year-old was standing in the street in the 200 block of West 95th Street a few minutes after noon when he was approached by a gunman who opened fire, police said.

He was shot in the leg and was being treated at the scene, police said.

About 7:45 a.m., a 24-year-old man was shot several times in the 4000 block of West Kamerling Avenue in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, police said. The man was shot in the chest, side and elbow, and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition.

The day's first shooting was reported about 1:45 a.m. in the Portage Park neighborhood.

A 21-year-old man was driving westbound on West Irving Park Road near North Major Avenue when a silver car drove by and someone inside fired shots, police said.

The man suffered a gunshot wound to the right shoulder and a graze wound to the face, police said. He was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where his condition was stabilized.

Monday, one man was killed and at least seven other people were shot across Chicago.
