Weekly jobless claims drop to 340,000
Before the opening bell, the Labor Department reported the number of people filing for unemployment benefits fell 10,000 last week to a seasonally adjusted 340,000. That means employers are laying off fewer workers. The numbers are now close to pre-recession levels reached in August.
