Trump hosts oil executives over Venezuela

CBS News White House reporter Aaron Navarro joins me now. Aaron, the president said he wants speed and quality. And the oil companies seem to be open to it, but some did seem a little skittish. What is it that the president wants them to do? President Trump laid out a long-term view for these companies to be in Venezuela. He said repeatedly that they will be in the country for a long time. And he says the oil that they extract, once they rebuild the infrastructure, which, as you mentioned, he wants to be done quickly, will be put onto the global market almost immediately, with profits going to both the US and the people of Venezuela. That's according to what President Trump said earlier this afternoon. But while the president was enthusiastic, there were still several concerns shared by some of these oil executives. The CEO of ExxonMobil noted how they have had assets in Venezuela seized twice and that they would want changes to the laws in the country, and said that they would want to get a technical team into the country first to assess the conditions. At one point, the CEO said today, Venezuela is uninvestable. So while President Trump is enthusiastic, plenty of technical hurdles, at the very least, remain. The president also said the US is making moves to acquire Greenland. What did he say? He portrayed the US taking over Greenland as a matter of national security, saying that if the US does not do it, Russia or China will beat them to it. We are going to do something on Greenland, whether they like it or not. Because if we don't do it, Russia or China will take over Greenland. I would like to make a deal the easy way. But if we don't do it the easy way, we're going to do it the hard way. Asked why the US needs to own Greenland, since the US already has a military base in that country, President Trump says the US would defend it differently since it would be a territory, and not just the lease that the US has.

What did the president say about the latest in Minneapolis? On whether the FBI should share intelligence with Minnesota authorities, President Trump said he would normally support that, but called those Minnesota law enforcement officials, quote, "crooked officials," citing allegations of fraud done by Somali citizens in the state. He did not seem to address the latest video that came out today that the vice president has been amplifying.
