In Indiana, the price for a gallon of regular shot up over $1 in just the last week. Michigan up $0.86. Ohio spiking $0.80. The national average for a gallon of regular is now $4.37, the highest since the war with Iran began and the highest since July 2022. I'm looking at right now $75 a day in fuel alone.

Meals on Wheels America, which serves 2.6 million adults annually, tells us high gas prices plus rising food costs have created the perfect storm.

It's a very difficult situation to be in. I hear from some of our programs that say every day they feel like they're playing God and deciding who might need a meal more than someone else. There's a growing waitlist across our country. What does the organization have to sacrifice when gas prices go up so much? Well, sometimes you have to sacrifice more than a meal service because Meals on Wheels is not just about a nutritious meal. It's also about that social connection and the eyes and ears on a senior-- the safety check, if you will. Meals on Wheels America also tells us that some of those wait lists for food for seniors around the country stretch as long as four months. This as Americans are preparing to spend half a billion more on gas in just the next 24 hours alone compared to the start of the Iran war, Tony. That's a big number, Jo Ling. Thank you very much.
