Key highlights from the 2026 Met Gala

Brittany Talarico was there. She's the Style and Beauty Director at People, and she joins us now to break down some of the iconic looks from the night, and really, what went into making them, which I'm always stunned by. Brittany, good morning, and welcome. Good morning. Thanks so much for having me. I'm thrilled to be here. You're stylish in the pink suit. Oh, thank you. Which looks jumped out at you most? Oh, there were so many fun looks. I have to say, off the bat, Sabrina Carpenter. She looked incredible in Dior by Jonathan Anderson. And her look was actually made of film reel inspired by the film Sabrina, the Audrey Hepburn film. And if you looked really closely, you could see little scenes from the film. She had this gorgeous headpiece. It was absolutely incredible. I love how it played into cinema and art and costume art. I thought it was great. Haley Bieber looked incredible. She was another one of my favorites in a gilded corset made of 24 karat gold.

Sabrina there that were just looking, as she passed by. We also saw Beyoncé with her daughter, and you were saying that mother-daughter duos were also kind of a theme.

A huge theme. So like Beyoncé was there. Everybody was calling it the "First Monday in Bey." It was her big return after 10 years.

Right.

So it's absolutely incredible. She looked great in a custom Olivier Rousseau. She was walking up the steps, which was so proud of her daughter behind her. It was Blue. She's 14 years old. It was her Met Gala debut. You have to be 18 to go to the Met Gala so you have special privileges when you're Blue Ivy, and you get that invite. She looked gorgeous in Balenciaga. She told people she had a great time. And then Nicole Kidman was a co-chair, and she brought her daughter, who's a rising model, Sunday Rose. Sunday Rose was in Dior. And then we had Nicole looked amazing in Chanel. So few of us not only won't be able to go, but don't get to be on the red carpet to watch everybody come in. What was the experience like for you? It sounds and seems chaotic, but these pictures live on for years. For years, and they really inspire so much fashion to come. It was incredible. The energy was really high. I've covered the Met Gala for 13 plus years from behind my desk and a computer screen, and then I got to show up and go and be on the carpet. And it was great energy. Everyone was having fun. There's little fun interactions between stars. And then, of course, the big question is, will Rihanna show up, and how long do we have to wait? And she always comes and doesn't disappoint.

At the end. Everyone's feet are killing them. Eating a granola bar. Powering through.

Yeah, he's in custom Chanel. She looks incredible in custom Margiela. Very sculptural, also leaning into the theme of art. We see a lot of sculpture. She had amazing jewelry. And they stopped and talked to everybody. They're so kind. They really show up. They know they're late, but--

That's rare.

Very rare. And they really interact. Look at this amazing glam she had. She looked absolutely incredible. And I actually like grabbed a question with them as they were running up. They were being rushed in, and I was like, it's your mom and dad night out. How does it feel to be without the kids? And they were like, it's amazing, but also really sad. So it was really sweet that they have a bunch of kids now, and they're like, they get to do these amazing experiences. But it was a very universal feeling. And Beyoncé said her children are her art that's changed her life so real family theme to all of this. Any viral moments that we should be looking out for? Yes, there are so many. So Madonna, she had a whole performance art moment. She like, she stepped up on the iconic steps, and she had this crazy shipwreck like on her head. She was wearing like a boat on her head. And seven people-- seven, her ladies in waiting, carrying her up the stairs. This was-- yeah, it was her Saint Laurent moment. There was music playing. It was a really epic. Katy Perry-- oh, wait, Heidi Klum.

Heidi Klum as a statue. One thing about Heidi Klum, she's always going to nail it, always lean in and actually understand the assignment. She literally dresses a statue. She was surprising people all night. I actually caught her on the way out, and she was so funny. She's like I was so hot. I had to get out of there, because she was sweating. That's a lot look. But good for her, for really leaning in, and that's what this is all about, experimentation, taking risks. And I think it was really fun to see that spirit on the carpet, I have to say.
