Israel's plan to take Over Gaza City

So walk me through this. What concerns are there within Israel military over this takeover? Yeah, absolutely. The chief of staff of the military openly was against what the cabinet decided. He might even end up resigning. But here's what they oppose-- the fact that Israeli troops are exhausted after 22 months of war. Usually, Israel is very good at the 6-Day War or the 12-Day War, in Iran, but this one for nearly two years, really tough. And so troops are exhausted. The chief of staff believes the hostages are in deep danger. As the war goes on, Hamas may kill them-- may kill some of them, all of them. And so the chief of staff was openly against this. And then you have the pressure from people in the streets, including the hostage families. But as I say, the cabinet made its decision. On a worldwide basis, I think it will attract a lot of condemnation, Tom.

I want to zoom out for a little bit because, obviously, the optics here are concern as well. Many countries out there have been vocally opposed to this conflict and Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip and in Palestinian territories. Could this move further isolate Israel on the world stage? Yeah, I think it will. And we're seeing a change of public opinion, even in the United States, if you look at the polling. The US is broadly in support of Israel, and certainly, the Trump administration is. But in other countries, like in Europe, where Israel does a lot of business, you can tell from the editorials, from the government statements from Britain and France saying they'll recognize a Palestinian state, which is seen as a move slapping at Israel, that I would say Israel is losing a lot of popularity over the Gaza war. But Netanyahu's attitude is that he wants to win this war. And keep in mind, he also faces a fraud trial. And he wants to postpone the trial and stay in office, so he has his political reasons as well.
