Nearly six months since the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the mother of Todayshow cohost Savannah Guthrie, two ransom notes have been released in full by the Pima County sheriff. The first note was sent February 2, the day after Nancy was taken. It demanded a ransom and left clues the writer had been inside her home, saying "She had a white smart watch on the floor at the foot of her bed." In the second note, sent days later, the tone changed. "We never intended to hurt her. That was not our intention. She perished shortly after she was taken. We believe it was heart related. She is buried in nature now." It goes on to say, "We hope you all can find peace. We are truly sorry." We received your message, and we understand.

The next day, Savannah and her siblings acknowledged the note. Just four days ago, she released this video. I'm asking you, begging you to do the right thing now. Make the right choice. Help us find her. Tell us where to look for her.

The sheriff's department also said that the two doorbell-camera videos were taken on different days, indicating the man in the video took steps to prepare for the kidnapping. In an interview with CBS News, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said DNA from hair found at the crime scene came back inconclusive. This was far from being cold, and we'll continue to work it. And God forbid this ever take 50 years, but it could.

In a statement today, the sheriff's department said they are sharing the note because "these communications reveal distinct patterns of word choice, syntax, and phraseology that reflect the writer's unique linguistic style, which may be recognizable to the public." And, Matt, the sheriff told us there is still outstanding DNA evidence that has not been fully tested, evidence he believes could lead them to a suspect, Matt. Tom, thank you.
