Arrests in random shootings across Austin

Police in Texas have detained three people after a string of at least 12 shootings that left four people hurt. This started Saturday in Austin. The wounded include a man walking his dog, people working at a fire station, and a woman sitting in front of a store. CBS News correspondent Ian Lee is in Austin following the story for us today. Ian, good to see you. What are you learning about these shootings, and what are you hearing from members of the community about how they feel about all this? Hi there. Yeah, this reign of terror began Saturday afternoon, really terrifying everyone. At first, police didn't believe that the shootings were connected. It started with a car being stolen and then a gun stolen from a gun shop. But then as these shootings progressed, then authorities got more calls. They linked the dots that these were, in fact, all connected. It quieted down a bit towards the end of Saturday night but picked up again Sunday morning. They had this shelter-in-place order go out and people staying inside their homes because, as you pointed out, four people have been shot. But late Sunday, they saw a white Kia. They stopped it. Three people fled, a 15-year-old, a 17-year-old, and another person. And Sunday night, [INAUDIBLE] able to have all of three of those people in custody.

Wow. It's surprising to hear the ages there, very young. What do we know about the suspects, and do they believe that police have detained everyone involved? Yeah, so right now, the police say there isn't a threat to the public. They believe that they have everyone involved. There's a lot of questions surrounding this. Here's what more authorities had to say. I don't know what a motive is. I don't know what motive would drive anybody to come and drive around senselessly in the city and multiple parts of the city shooting. We need to take seriously the fact that we've got two juveniles, 15 and 17, running around with guns creating this havoc. The 17-year-old has a warrant for a theft of a gun from the same store that the 15-year-old stole a gun from. So it does seem like at least one of these people is known to authorities. But again, yeah, the big question is just what would drive someone to do this.
