DHS says she overstayed her visa, but her lawyer says Rojas was legally allowed to work in the US, and was freed from ICE detention last week. Sources tell CBS News, ICE appears to have increased its focus on airport enforcement in recent months. The TSA has been sharing more information about non-citizen travelers with ICE, including immigrants who lack criminal records, but are suspected of civil violations, like overstaying their visas.

One industry official says dozens of ICE arrests are happening at airports every day, including in the gate area and occasionally on a jet bridge or on a plane at the gate.

As recently as Wednesday, ICE arrested a person in a Southwest gate area. Airlines also worry about disruptions to their operations.
