Southwest Airlines says plus-sized passengers will be required to buy extra seat if they need space
Beginning in January 2026, customers who don’t have the seat space they need will be required to purchase an additional seat and pay any additional fees. Typically, there’s an option for a refund for the extra seat, but that is ending.
