As the community mourns the loss of Botham Jean who was killed by an off-duty officer in his apartment, the investigation into what exactly happened is in the hand of the Texas Rangers.
Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings called the shooting death of Botham Jean by an off-duty officer a "very serious issue" for the city in a statement Saturday afternoon.
"Bo was an outstanding young man. He was an outstanding Christian. He was having an impact. We're definitely going to miss him."
Family and friends described Botham Jean as a devout Christian and a talented singer. His uncle Ignatius Jean said the slaying left relatives devastated and looking for answers.
The Arlington police officer who shot and killed the driver hasn't been identified by the department at this time, but he has been with the department for eight years.
It appears that after working a full shift, the officer went home to her apartment complex, the Southside Flats in the 1200 block of South Lamar, but went inside the wrong unit.
