James Click was introduced on Tuesday, taking over for Jeff Luhnow, suspended for a season by Major League Baseball and then fired by Astros owner Jim Crane.
James Click, 42, graduated from Yale and wrote for analytics website Baseball Prospectus for several years before being hired by the Tampa Bay Rays.
"He's a person of high integrity. He's a respected leader. He has great baseball experience and he will earn the players' trust," said Astros owner Jim Crane.
"Throughout his successful career, Dusty has embodied the qualities that we were looking for in a manager," Astros owner Jim Crane said in a statement.
The 70-year-old Baker becomes the oldest manager in the big leagues. He takes over from AJ Hinch, who was fired January 13.
