Youths Shot During Graduation Celebration

Updated 5/27/12 6:50 p.m: The following is a statement  from Dallas police officer Melinda Gutierrez about the shooting. It confirms the morning time originally posted in the story.

Officers responded to a shooting call on May 27, 2012 at the 3200 block of Malcolm X and 2700 Birmingham Ave about 12:40 am. A  suspect became involved in a verbal dispute with another individual at a graduation party. As the suspect was exiting the location with a group of people, he drew a handgun and fired into the air. A known suspect who was standing by his vehicle then fired his handgun into the group that was exiting the location. The victims of the shooting are:

B/M/18 with injury to his left foot Case # 129579-Z
B/M/10 with injury to his right thigh Case # 129672-Z
B/F/17 with injury to her upper torso Case # 129578-Z
B/F/17. She was had injury to her right leg. Case # is 129554-Z.

All of the victims are were transported to Baylor Hospital and are in stable condition. It is believed that there are two more victims, but I do not have any information regarding them at this time.

This incident is possibly gang related and at this time is being investigated by the Gang Unit.

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) A shooting during a graduation celebration has sent at least four youths including a 10-year-old to the hospital Sunday.

Dallas Senior Corporal Melinda Gutierrez says that around 12:40 a.m. an argument broke out at a graduation celebration near the corner of Malcolm X Boulevard and Pennsylvania Avenue.

Gutierrez says one person drew a handgun and fired a shot into the air. Another person then fired at a group of people leaving the location.

Four victims ages 18, 17, 17 and 10 were taken to Baylor University Medical Center. They are all in stable condition.

It is believed that there are at least two more victims.

No arrests have been made at this time but at least one suspect had been identified.
