Young Woman's Burned Body Found In Ennis

ENNIS (CBSDFW.com) - Ennis Police on Thursday confirmed an investigation is underway into the death of a young woman whose body was found burned on Saturday morning.

The Ennis Daily News reports the body was discovered by a passerby around 7:05 a.m. in the 2400 block of Knighthurst Road near the corner of Creechville Road and South Kaufman Street.

Det. Sgt. Mike Hopson of the Ennis Police Department told the paper a resident called police after spotting smoke coming from the still-smoldering body.

According to the paper, the woman is thought to be a black female - possibly as young as 16 or as old as 25.  Det. Hopson said she was probably dead before being brought to the location and the body burned.  The cause of death is not known at this point.

Police said the woman's body was taken to the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office.  But so far there's been no official word on her identity.
