Wonderful Weather Continues

Difficult to complain about the weather today unless you wanted to go down the water slide at Hurricane Harbor (which opened today for the season). A brisk north wind kept temperaures around 70° this afternoon under blue skies. This is a high about 13°below normal for mid-May with more of the same on tap for tomorrow. Tonight I'd suggest to close all the windows before, lows are going to get down to the upper 40's in most places by morning. Clear skies and less wind will make for lows within a handful of degrees from a record.

SUNDAY, MONDAY: COOL  SUNSHINE

Okay a few clouds but with highs in the low 70's and very low humidity (and less wind!) this has all the makings of one great Sunday. Sunday night lows will again dip down to the upper 40's outside the metro areas and around 50 in town. Monday it should again be mostly sunny and in the mid-70's. The wind will again be out of the north so expect very low humidity. Great opening weather for the Colonial and all our visitors.

RAIN CHANCES RETURN

We have had some good rains so far this month, excellent news considering the drought conditions that encompass the entire state. Some afternoon storms should pop on Wednesday along the dry line in our western counties, a more wide spread rain is expected on Thursday AND Friday. Highs from Wed. on to Friday will be tempered by clouds and rain chances, they should hover in the low to mid-80's. The rain should clear by the weekend and highs will respond: in the 90's next Saturday which sounds like a better water park day.

The extended forecast calls for cooler weather and wet conditions to return after the 21st- we could use any surplus rain. As Jeff Jamison blogged yesterday we are about 9" - 12" of rain from making up for our short falls since last September.

The map below is from the Climate Prediction Center showing below normal temperatures expected for days 6 thru 10. They also are predicting a chance for above normal rainfall.
