RICHARDSON (CBS11) - A Richardson auto repair shop is accused of driving customers vehicles for personal use.

That's after a Plano woman found out her car was in an accident in Mesquite.

The sign outside the Eagle Transmission on Jupiter Road in Richardson says "The Ones to Trust."

Ivet Solis questions that motto after leaving her 2002 Volkswagen Passat for major repairs.

"I think we were taking advantage of," says Solis.

Solis got a call Thursday from an insurance agency alerting her that the car she hasn't seen or driven in months had been involved in a wreck.

"They put us in a situation where we had to leave the car and they pretty much fixed it and are using it personally," says Solis.

CBS 11 News went to the repair shop where the manager admitted to the accident but denied it was had become his personal car.

"I was just testing it and I actually bumped into somebody," says Gerardo Nuno, Eagle Transmission Manager.

The manager says the owner abandoned the vehicle because of an ongoing dispute over a $3000 repair that she believed was more than the car was worth.

"I was waiting to see what would happen," says Solis.

"She never came back and got the car she never returned calls," says Nuno.

If the repair shop manager wasn't driving the car for personal use, why was the accident in Mesquite, 17 miles away from the Richardson garage?

"We just went over there to pick up a part that we needed," says Nuno.

The manager initially said he was driving the car but an insurance adjuster told us that a female was driving the Passat.

"Yes there was a woman driving she went to pick up the car," says Nuno.

I'd like to get the car back," says Solis.

"Right now It's still her car she hasn't picked it up but there's still money owed on it," says Nuno.

Progressive insurance says its investigation shows the repair shop manager was uninsured at the time of the accident but that the car's owner will not be liable for the damages.
