Widow Has Magical Day At The Ballpark
ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - On Saturday, Janet and Jim Kerr's dreams finally came true: The Texas Rangers got the first victory in a World Series game in franchise history. Unfortunately, one of them could not be there to see it happen.
The Carrollton couple were avid fans. During their 17 years of marriage, they traveled the country to watch the Rangers play on the road. In fact, it was Sept. 25 when the Kerrs were in Oakland to watch the Rangers clinch the American League West.
But Jim died of a heart attack at the hotel and never saw the joy of sweet success. With family by her side, Janet made the bittersweet trip Saturday to game three of the World Series.
"I have never been quite this anxious about getting started," she said.
It must have been the most magical walk to the ballpark for the 63-year-old: The first-ever World Series game in Arlington with her husband there, in spirit.
"On a scale of one to ten," she said, "It's about a 20."
On this unforgettable day, Janet finally took her seat. The movie "Field of Dreams" once asked, "Is this Heaven?" Perhaps Janet and Jim Kerr could answer that best.
