Wet, Cold Weather Coming!

WET WEATHER COMING AND THEN COLD, WET WEATHER COMING…

A rather dynamic weather situation setting up for the next several days here in North Texas.  A strong upper level storms system will take it's sweet time moving across the country the next several days and that means several rain opportunities for us.  Throw in a little cold air coming down from Canada and it creates all types of forecasting headaches.  Let's start with tonight.
TONIGHT… A cold front will slide into North Texas overnight.  The clouds have been on the increase all day and it will stay cloudy overnight.  Spotty light rain will start to develop this evening with widespread rain developing after midnight tonight.  Temperatures will stay around 50 degrees tonight.

FRIDAY MORNING COMMUTE… It will be cloudy and wet as lingering rain will continue thru the morning on Friday.  Temperatures will vary depending on which side of the cold front you are located.  North of DFW temps will be in the 40s.  Our southeastern counties will stay in the mid 50s.

FRIDAY AFTERNOON… The cold front retreats back west and the rain ends in the afternoon.  Partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies with temps warming to near 60 degrees in Fort Worth, probably low to mid 60s in Dallas and east where a little more sunshine will be possible.

FRIDAY EVENING… Party to mostly cloudy with mainly dry weather.  Can't rule out a spotty light rain shower, but nothing widespread.  Temps will be in the 50s for those high school football playoff games.
SATURDAY MORNING… Cloudy skies a little spotty light rain and drizzle early with temps in the mid 50s.
SATURDAY AFTERNOON (BEFORE SUNSET)… Mostly cloudy skies with temps in the mid to even upper 60s if we see some sunshine.  Most of the day time hours on Saturday will be dry, but by evening rain arrives.

SATURDAY EVENING… The timing is still a little off between models but a cold front will arrive Saturday Evening or Saturday Night.  A line of showers will sweep from west to east between 6pm and 2am.  Some heavier downpours will be possible.  Temperatures behind the front will be quite cold for Sunday.

SUNDAY MORNING… The front will slide south and east of DFW and winds will increase out of the north.  Temperatures will still be around 50 degrees early Sunday morning then quickly fall into the 40s.  Widespread rain will continue behind the cold front Sunday with pockets of heavier downpours.  This will be a cold/raw rain with temperatures in the 40s.
SUNDAY AFTERNOON… Temperatures will continue to fall into the upper 30s and low 40s by Sunday afternoon.  Rain will continue off and on as well.  There could be a few sleet pellets mixed in with the rain during the afternoon and evening on Sunday.  Surface temperatures should stay above freezing so no travel concerns, but it certainly possible you may see a few sleet pellets mixed in with the rain on Sunday.
SUNDAY NIGHT… Temperatures will continue to drop into the mid to low 30s.  North winds will continue to be gusty.  Light rain will still be in the area Sunday night into Monday Morning.

MONDAY MORNING… There is the threat that if temperatures do get cold enough there could be some very light freezing drizzle in the northern sections of North Texas Monday morning.  I am forecasting a low of 34 Monday morning which would keep the Metroplex out of the freezing drizzle.  But areas north and up along the Red River there could be a brief period of light freezing rain in the early morning hours.  Something that will have to be watched.

MONDAY AFTERNOON… Mostly cloudy with maybe some lingering rain.  Temperatures will struggle to get into the low 40s.  Strong north winds will blow all day.  Brrr….

TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY… Sunshine finally returns, but get ready for the coldest morning so far this season.  Temperatures will start in the mid to upper 20s Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning.  Highs on Tuesday will only be in the low 40s and highs on Wednesday will make it into the 50s.

TOTAL RAINFALL... Areas south and east of Dallas have the greatest potential to see beneficial rain with some areas seeing over 2" from Tonight thru Monday.

OU VS OSU…  I've gotten a lot of questions about the weather in Stillwater, OK, for the big game Saturday Evening between Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.  It will be cold and wet.  Temperatures will be in the 30s with some rain in the area.  Of note, is that there may be a brief changeover to snow in Northern Oklahoma Saturday evening before the precip ends.  A lot will depend on how fast the cold air arrives.  It's a small possibility but not impossible to see a little snow falling at the game in Stillwater, OK.
