Wednesday's Warriors: Lemonade For LLS

SOUTHLAKE (CBSDFW.COM) - Two siblings who lost their beloved grandfather to cancer are raising money to fight the disease.

Emma Smith and her brother Baylor set up shop in front of The Feed Store in Southlake to sell lemonade on Memorial Day. It was their third pop up stand, which they call "Lemonade For LLS". They served fresh, cold lemonade by the glass and cookies were for sale, too.

CBS11 Anchor Doug Dunbar met Emma and Baylor's mother while training for the upcoming Ironman World Championship. The children took it upon themselves, to do something to help "Mr. Doug" raise money, to support the leukemia and lymphoma society.

Every dollar dropped into their jar was for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Then it started to happen. One by one, people opened up their wallets, and their hearts. Dollar after dollar. Some people didn't even want a drink or cookie, some just gave.

Their inspiration? Their grandfather, Roger Lemieux who lost his 106 day battle with leukemia just a few months ago.

"It was hard to see, it was hard to think too... I was really close to him," said Emma.

Emma and Baylor stayed in the hot, sweaty sun, waving and asking anyone who would listen, for support for LLS. One woman stopped and gave them $5. When asked why, she replied, "because my grandfather died from leukemia." Little did she know both Emma and Baylor suffered the same pain. Yet there they were -- turning the ugliest lemon life can dole out -- raising more than $1,000 for blood cancer research in the process.

Through Emma and Baylor's generosity and willingness to share their hearts, their time and their awesome lemonade making skills, they will someday realize that the very money they helped raise, just might be the money that was needed to create a cure in a lab soon.

No doubt Lemieux would be proud of how his grandchildren are turning lemons into lemonade; raising money to fight the very disease that separated them.
