DALLAS (CBS 11 NEWS) - A Dallas couple is at a loss after burglars broke into their storage space and stole a wedding dress.

Matt Vorwald said he went to get his leather jacket from their storage unit at the Mosaic Apartments in Downtown Dallas. He noticed a few things out of place, including the wardrobe bag his wife stored her wedding dress in for safe keeping.

"A lump went in my throat because I didn't see the wedding dress," said Matt Vorwald.

His wife Sonja ran to the storage unit where her fears were confirmed.

"It's gone and I can never get it back. That was my day, our day," said Sonja Vorwald.

Just the night before, the couple had celebrated their 7th wedding anniversary.

"I remember being a child and looking at my mom's wedding dress. You know the history to it and the making of our family," said Sonja Vorwald.

With hardly any sign of breaking into the unit, someone evidently busted into their storage space. A leather jacket was stolen along with the wedding gown, but other valuables like golf clubs and a computer were left behind.

"It doesn't make sense why the dress would be targeted over some items that would be more valuable in the resale market," said Matt Vorwald.

Sonja and Matt Vorwald said they have been targeted in the past by thieves, but to take a wedding dress is a new low they are experiencing.

Their plea to whoever might have taken the wedding dress is that they just want it returned, no questions asked.

"I'd like to think that it's probably someone that was really desperate for money and saw it as a chance to sell and get some cash. It's something I'd gladly buy back if that's their motivation," said Matt Vorwald.
