DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) -- Dallas residents are demanding answers after one of their neighborhood's peacocks was stolen last weekend.
The bird was grabbed off the street on April 4 around 7 p.m. in Oak Cliff's Beckley Club Estates neighborhood, where a group of them have roamed free for years.
Surveillance video shows a man sneaking up on the bird as it was calling for mates, then grabbing it up by the claws.
Sound of the birds screaming drew residents outside, as the peacock was stuffed inside a car and the door slammed on its tail feathers.
Residents say this was the alpha male peacock -- the oldest and largest of the bunch. They think of all the peacocks as their own and say they want this one back so that he can help create more peacocks.
Dallas police are investigating the incident.
